About Maja

Hi, I’m Maja, and I’m an art director for print, web, space, food & beverage, and brand identity systems.

Currently, I work for Proper Hospitality, a boutique line of luxury hotels. Its interiors have been designed by the renowned Kelly Wearstler. Each hotel is unique in its visual approach yet all of them share common Proper sensibility of hand-picked amenities, first-class restaurants, meeting places, and incredible spaces. In my role at Proper, I have worked with variable departments, from F&B, Operations, Sales & Marketing, HR, Architectural, Social Media, to Kelly herself. I have been responsible for creating in-room collateral along with F&B collateral for San Francisco Proper, which opened in September of 2017 with 3 F&B outlets. I’ve been instrumental in creating and maintaining Proper’s website as well as its rich e-marketing. I have also spent much time designing numerous Business to Business presentation along with Sales Kits for various properties owned and operated by Proper.

In the past I have worked at the Los Angeles County Museum of Art, where I worked with myriad departments, including exhibitions, curatorial, editorial, marketing, among others, to create unique and attention-grabbing graphics for both print and web. Within exhibition design, I aimed to create imaginative and context-specific graphics that lived well in architectural spaces while staying within budget. Beyond the space of exhibitions, I created and implemented LACMA’s signage, which then went on buildings, into elevators, on street banners and digital screens, all to garner public interest for the museum. Since I love working with typography I also designed LACMA’s various publications, from small members’ newsletters and journals to full grown art catalogs.

Overall, I’m interested in systems and identity. I’ve applied this focus to my work at Ogilvy & Mather in New York, where I worked in the Brand Integration Group to brand, market, and package projects. My clients included:

American Express
Maxwell House

I have an MFA from the California Institute of the Arts, where my thesis looked at a flexible identity system for a specific town.

In addition to my professional work, I’m also an educator—I’ve taught branding, theory, typography, and art direction at the Otis College of Art and Design.
