About Maja

August 23, 2010  by admin

My name is Maja, and for the past three years, I have been running the design department at Proper Hospitality. There, I have made an impact by creating all facets of design from business cards, menus, signage, sales presentations, websites, e-blasts to entire e-marketing campaigns. I have been managing the schedule and priorities of a busy design office and provided coaching to stakeholders and resources across the company.

In the past I have held a senior design position at the Los Angeles County Museum of Art, where I worked with a myriad of departments, including exhibitions, curatorial, editorial, marketing, among others, to create unique and attention-grabbing graphics for both print and web. Within the exhibition design, I aimed to create imaginative and context-specific graphics that lived well in architectural spaces while staying within tight budgets. Beyond the space of exhibitions, I created and implemented LACMA’s signage, which then was applied to buildings, elevators, street banners, and digital screens, all to garner public interest for the museum. Since I love working with typography I also designed LACMA’s various publications, from small members’ newsletters and journals to full-grown art catalogs.

Overall, I’m interested in branding, research, art history, and typography. I’ve applied this focus to my work at Ogilvy & Mather in New York, where I worked in the Brand Integration Group to brand, market, and package projects. My clients included: Motorola, BP, Sprite, Coca-Cola, Dove, TIAA-CREF, Jaguar, American Express, Maxwell House, Kodak

I hold an MFA from the California Institute of the Arts. My thesis looked at a flexible identity system for a specific town.

In addition to my professional work, I have worked for several years as an educator—I’ve taught branding, theory, typography, and art direction at the Otis College of Art and Design.
